If you want to use your flexible rewards points for travel, one of the easiest ways to do so is through your bank’s travel portal. Instead of fussing with points transfers to partners or worrying about award charts and blackout dates, booking through a portal is simple — and you can search multiple airlines, hotel brands, or other travel providers in one spot.
Several credit card programs, including Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, and Citi ThankYou Rewards, all have travel platforms that you can use to book flights, hotels, car rentals, and more. Capital One also has a travel portal, and it’s just gotten a significant makeover.

Earlier this year, Capital One announced a partnership with Hopper, an app that helps travelers pick the best times to book and travel at the cheapest prices. Now, we’re getting an early look at the changes to Capital One Travel, and they include features you won’t find anywhere else, including price prediction, price watches, and price drop protection.
The new portal is rolling out in beta to a small group of customers over the next couple of weeks, but it should be live for all eligible Capital One cardholders within the next few months. Here’s a sneak peek.

If you’re an eligible Capital One cardholder, you might be one of the lucky customers to soon have the refreshed Capital One Travel portal available in your account. Once the portal goes live for everyone, you’ll be able to access it if you have one of the following cards:

In addition, eligible Venture, VentureOne, and Spark Miles cardholders will earn an unlimited 5 miles per dollar on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel. That’s a nice return if you’re using your card (not miles) to pay for your trip.
With the new portal, cardholders will have the option to book flights, hotels, and rental cars using points, cash, or a combination of both. This feature is common to other bank portals, but there are a number of new customer-friendly updates that make Capital One Travel much more useful than its competitors.
These new features are designed to help customers find the lowest possible price for their trip — whether it’s keeping an eye on prices for a flight you’re hoping to book to monitoring your existing booking for price drops.
Price prediction and price watch
Capital One’s partnership with Hopper has enabled the portal to provide flight price prediction — that is, whether you should book now or wait for a lower price. By analyzing billions of data points on flight prices and trends, Capital One says it can provide price prediction with 95% accuracy and save customers an average of 15% per flight.
When you want to book a flight, Capital One Travel will predict prices and recommend the best (cheapest) time to book. You’ll also have the option to set up price alerts for flights you’re interested in, and Capital One will monitor the price — and send you an alert if the price goes down.

Price drop protection
Isn’t it the worst when you buy a ticket and find out a few days later that the price has dropped? In most cases — unless you’ve booked an expensive, fully refundable ticket — you won’t have any recourse.
Capital One Travel is taking the sting out of this familiar scenario by offering free price drop protection. For 10 days after you’ve made your booking, Capital One will continue to monitor fares, and if the price drops, you’ll automatically receive money back — up to a maximum of $50 per ticket.
Price match guarantee
Similarly, Capital One guarantees that you’ll find the best price for flights, hotels, and car rentals through its portal — but if you do find a better price on another site within 24 hours of booking, Capital One Travel will refund the difference.
If you find a flight you want but aren’t ready to firm up your booking just yet, Capital One Travel offers a price freeze feature. For a small fee, you can lock in your ticket price for up to 14 days while you decide whether or not to book.
If the price goes up in that timeframe, you’re covered for up to a $200 fare difference. And if the price drops, you’ll just pay the lower price.
Cancel for any reason
With COVID still impacting travel, having travel insurance is key to having peace of mind if you need to change or cancel your plans at the last minute. While some credit cards offer trip interruption or cancellation insurance, it’s usually only valid for very specific reasons, such as illness or severe weather.

For a small upfront fee, Capital One Travel will offer customers the ability to cancel flights for any reason, up to 24 hours before their first scheduled departure, and receive 80% of their ticket cost back.
These changes to Capital One Travel are exciting — and you won’t find most of the new features on other bank portals. If its fare prediction and price drop protection are as robust as promised, booking your flights through Capital One versus directly with the airline or through another online travel site could be a no-brainer.
